Boont Amber Ale

Photobucket

Anderson Valley Brewing Company has put out a winner! It even says it on the bottle, (Gold Medal Winner.) Not TOO malty or hoppy. It's rather delicious and leaves quite a pleasant after taste. 5.8% alcohol content. Not bad. But definitely not the type of beer you want to buy if you're trying to catch a buzz. Although it is rather tastey, it is also rather pricey. But it is the perfect brew to go along with dinner, or just sip on while you relax. The label on the bottle is interesting, to say the least. A bear with antlers? Good is good. Not much else to say about this brew.

Simpler Times Lager

Photobucket

So, my buddy tells me about this beer. He stated that it has a 6.2% alcohol content AND is only $2.99 a 6 pack. Could this be the beer that every man dreams of? A high alcohol content, for kicking back a few and catching a nice buzz or for getting completely blitzed? Inexpensive, so even the average Joe Shmoe living off of unemployment can afford? And a great taste? Well... Close.

As stated earlier, my buddy is the one who turned me on to this beer. I invited him over to watch the UFC 100 event at my house, and like any good man should do, he brought over 2 six packs of beer. The beer being the recently spoken of, Simpler Times. I was a little anxious, but at the same time had a feeling that it was too good to be true. A delicious, inexpensive beer that gets you hammered?! No way. We both cracked open a can each and commenced drinking. It was icey cold. First taste... not TOO bad. But the more I drank, the worse it got. I think the trick is, to drink this beer as quickly as possible. Once it starts warming up, it turns to piss.

So the taste isn't great. However, you can't argue that $2.99 a 6 pack isn't a great price. And after only 4 beers, on an empty stomach, I started to feel the buzz. So where this beer lacks in taste, it makes up for in affordability and potential drunkenness. Definitely a good beer to buy in bulk for a good-size party. You'll save money and you and your guests can get plowed! As long as they can stomach the taste, or get drunk enough to not even care!

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

Photobucket

Since it is Summer, I thought I might try out a seasonal brew from Sam Adams. The lable says, "Wheat ale brewed with lemon and grains of paradise." Lemons and Grains of Paradise?! It has to be delightful! By no means is this a fruity, citrus beer. Sorry ladies.

These were uncharted waters for me. My first Sam Adams Summer Ale. I must say, I was a little disappointed with my first sip after reading it was brewed with lemons and grains of paradise. You better come out with something a little stronger and more deliscious than that, advertising your ingrediants are from paradise! But upon further examination, it started to grow on me. It doesn't have a strong taste, but it is far from "piss water." And it leaves a fairly decent after taste. The major downfall to this brew... it MUST be cold. Not just fairly cold.. but cold. Otherwise, it tastes kinda funky.

Just a cool little side note... it has a notch in the month that the beer will expire, right on the face of the bottle. So you know you're drinking fresh beer!

My final review... Not a party beer. More the type to have one or two with dinner. Wouldn't make it my daily drinker.

The Reason

Upon searching the internet for beer reviews, such as "Top American Beer," such results either didn't turn up, or were uncomprehensive. We all know that microbrews are all the rage these days. Foreign beers are said to be more stout, have more flavor and a higher alcohol content. American beers are said to be "piss water," flavorless, and cheap. This blog was created to review and discuss ALL beers. Domestic, foreign, micro. From IPA to DBA... whatever. This review/blog will be open for reviews and discussion from all drinkers. From the simple partier to the beer connoisseur. Scores will be given to each brew, on a scale of 1-5. Enjoy!
